[296] For whom the eye base (cakkhāyatana) arises, does the ear base (sotāyatana) arise for that one?
For those possessing the eye but lacking the ear who are being reborn (upapajjantānaṃ), the eye base arises for them, but the ear base does not arise for them. For those possessing the eye and possessing the ear who are being reborn, for them both the eye base arises and the ear base arises.
Or else, for whom the ear base arises, does the eye base arise for that one?
For those possessing the ear but lacking the eye who are being reborn, the ear base arises for them, but the eye base does not arise for them. For those possessing the ear and possessing the eye who are being reborn, for them both the ear base arises and the eye base arises.
