[432] For whomever, wherever, the eye base (cakkhāyatana) does not arise, has the ear base (sotāyatana) not arisen for that one there?
For those passing away from the five-aggregate [plane] (pañcavokāra) who are being reborn, eyeless, in the sense sphere (kāmāvacara): for them, there, the eye base does not arise, but it is not the case that the ear base has not arisen for them there. For those attaining final Nibbāna in the Pure Abodes (suddhāvāsa), for non-percipient beings (asaññasatta), and for formless (arūpa) beings: for them, there, the eye base does not arise, and the ear base has not arisen.
Or rather, for whomever, wherever, the ear base has not arisen, does the eye base not arise for that one there?
For those being reborn in the Pure Abodes: for them, there, the ear base has not arisen, but it is not the case that the eye base does not arise for them there. For those attaining final Nibbāna in the Pure Abodes, for non-percipient beings, and for formless beings: for them, there, the ear base has not arisen, and the eye base does not arise.
