[479] For whomever, wherever, the eye base (cakkhāyatana) does not arise, will the mind base (manāyatana) not arise for that one there?
For those passing away from the five-constituent existence (pañcavokāra), for those without eye who are being reborn into the sense sphere (kāmāvacara), and for formless (arūpa) beings — for them there the eye base does not arise, but it is not the case that the mind base will not arise for them there. For those attaining final Nibbāna (parinibbāna) in the five-constituent existence, for those in their final existence (pacchimabhavika) in the formless plane, and for non-percipient beings (asaññasatta) — for them there the eye base does not arise and the mind base will not arise.
Or rather, for whomever, wherever, the mind base will not arise, does the eye base not arise for that one there?
For those in their final existence who are being reborn into the five-constituent existence — for them there the mind base will not arise, but it is not the case that the eye base does not arise for them there. For those attaining final Nibbāna in the five-constituent existence, for those in their final existence in the formless plane, and for non-percipient beings — for them there the mind base will not arise and the eye base does not arise.
