[480] "For whomever, wherever, the eye base (cakkhāyatana) does not arise, will the dhamma base (dhammāyatana) not arise for that one there?"
For all who are passing away, and for the eyeless who are being reborn — for them, there, the eye base does not arise, yet it is not the case that the dhamma base will not arise for them there. For those attaining final Nibbāna (parinibbāna) in the five-constituent existence (pañcavokāra), and for those in their final existence in the immaterial plane (arūpa) — for them, there, the eye base does not arise and the dhamma base will not arise.
"Or rather, for whomever, wherever, the dhamma base will not arise, does the eye base not arise for that one there?"
For those in their final existence who are being reborn into the five-constituent existence — for them, there, the dhamma base will not arise, yet it is not the case that the eye base does not arise for them there. For those attaining final Nibbāna in the five-constituent existence, and for those in their final existence in the immaterial plane — for them, there, the dhamma base will not arise and the eye base does not arise.
