[470] For whomever the eye base (cakkhāyatana) does not arise, will the mind-object base (dhammāyatana) not arise for that one?
For all who are passing away, and for the eyeless who are being reborn, the eye base does not arise; but it is not the case that the mind-object base will not arise for them. For those attaining final Nibbāna in the five-constituent existence (pañcavokāra), and for those in their final existence (pacchimabhavika) in the formless realm (arūpa), the eye base does not arise and the mind-object base will not arise.
Or rather, for whomever the mind-object base will not arise, does the eye base not arise for that one?
For those in their final existence who are being reborn into the five-constituent existence, the mind-object base will not arise; but it is not the case that the eye base does not arise for them. For those attaining final Nibbāna in the five-constituent existence, and for those in their final existence in the formless realm, the mind-object base will not arise and the eye base does not arise.
