[457] For whomever, wherever, the eye base (cakkhāyatana) arises, will the form base (rūpāyatana) arise for that one there?
For beings in their final existence (pacchimabhavika) who are being reborn into the five-constituent [plane] (pañcavokāra): for them the eye base arises there, but the form base will not arise for them there. For the others possessed of eyes who are being reborn: for them there both the eye base arises and the form base will arise.
Or alternatively, for whomever, wherever, the form base will arise, does the eye base arise for that one there?
For those passing away from the five-constituent [plane], for those without eyes who are being reborn into the sense sphere (kāmāvacara), and for non-percipient beings (asaññasatta): for them the form base will arise there, but the eye base does not arise for them there. For those possessed of eyes who are being reborn: for them there both the form base will arise and the eye base arises.
