[482] For whomever, wherever, the nose base (ghānāyatana) does not arise, will the mind base (manāyatana) not arise for that one there?
For those passing away (cavanta) from the sense sphere (kāmāvacara), for those without nose (aghānaka) who are being reborn (upapajjanta) into the sense sphere, for those of the form sphere (rūpāvacara), and for those of the formless sphere (arūpāvacara): for them there the nose base does not arise, but it is not the case that for them there the mind base will not arise. For those attaining final Nibbāna (parinibbanta) in the sense sphere, for those in their final existence (pacchimabhavika) in the form sphere and in the formless sphere, and for the non-percipient beings (asaññasatta): for them there the nose base does not arise and the mind base will not arise.
Or else, for whomever, wherever, the mind base will not arise, does the nose base not arise for that one there?
For those in their final existence who are being reborn into the sense sphere: for them there the mind base will not arise, but it is not the case that for them there the nose base does not arise. For those attaining final Nibbāna in the sense sphere, for those in their final existence in the form sphere and in the formless sphere, and for the non-percipient beings: for them there the mind base will not arise and the nose base does not arise.
