[616] For whomever the eye base (cakkhāyatana) ceases, will the form base (rūpāyatana) cease for that one?
For those attaining final Nibbāna (parinibbāna) in the five-constituent existence (pañcavokāra), and for those who, having been reborn in the formless [realm] (arūpa), will attain final Nibbāna — as they pass away: for these the eye base ceases, but the form base will not cease for them. For the others who possess the eye, as they pass away, their eye base ceases and their form base will cease.
