[899] For whom the truth of suffering (dukkhasacca) does not arise, will the truth of the path (maggasacca) not arise for that one?
For those who will obtain the supreme path (aggamagga) in immediate succession to a given mind (citta), at the moment of the dissolution (bhaṅgakkhaṇa) of that mind; and for those others who will obtain the path, as they are passing away, at the moment of the dissolution of a mind in the course of existence (pavatti), and in the formless realm (arūpa) at the moment of the arising (uppādakkhaṇa) of the path and of fruition (phala) — for these the truth of suffering does not arise, yet it is not the case that the truth of the path will not arise for them. At the moment of the dissolution of the supreme path; for Arahants (arahanta), at the moment of the dissolution of a mind; and for those ordinary persons (puthujjana) who will not obtain the path, as they are passing away, at the moment of the dissolution of a mind in the course of existence, and in the formless realm at the moment of the arising of the path and of fruition — for these the truth of suffering does not arise, and the truth of the path will not arise.
Or, for whom the truth of the path will not arise, does the truth of suffering not arise for that one?
At the moment of the arising of the supreme path; for Arahants, at the moment of the arising of a mind; and for those ordinary persons who will not obtain the path, as they are being reborn, at the moment of the arising of a mind in the course of existence — for these the truth of the path will not arise, yet it is not the case that the truth of suffering does not arise for them. At the moment of the dissolution of the supreme path; for Arahants, at the moment of the dissolution of a mind; and for those ordinary persons who will not obtain the path, as they are passing away, at the moment of the dissolution of a mind in the course of existence, and in the formless realm at the moment of the arising of the path and of fruition — for these the truth of the path will not arise, and the truth of suffering does not arise.
