[1014] For whomever, wherever, the truth of suffering (dukkha-sacca) does not arise, will the truth of the path (magga-sacca) not cease for that one there?
At the moment of dissolution (bhaṅgakkhaṇa) of the path; for those who will obtain the highest path (aggamagga) in immediate succession to a given mind (citta)—at the moment of dissolution of that mind; and for those others who will obtain the path—as they are passing away, at the moment of dissolution of mind in the course of existence (pavatti), and, in the immaterial plane (arūpa), at the moment of arising (uppādakkhaṇa) of the path and of fruition (phala): for them, there, the truth of suffering does not arise, yet it is not the case that for them, there, the truth of the path will not cease. At the moment of dissolution of the highest path; for Arahants at the moment of dissolution of mind; and for those ordinary persons (puthujjanā) who will not obtain the path—as they are passing away, at the moment of dissolution of mind in the course of existence, and, in the immaterial plane, at the moment of arising of the path and of fruition; and for those passing away from the states of loss and woe (apāya) and from the non-percipient beings (asaññasattā): for them, there, the truth of suffering does not arise, and the truth of the path will not cease.
Or, conversely: for whomever, wherever, the truth of the path will not cease, does the truth of suffering not arise for that one there?
For Arahants at the moment of arising of mind; and for those ordinary persons who will not obtain the path—as they are being reborn, at the moment of arising of mind in the course of existence; and for those being reborn into the states of loss and woe and among the non-percipient beings: for them, there, the truth of the path will not cease, yet it is not the case that for them, there, the truth of suffering does not arise. At the moment of dissolution of the highest path; for Arahants at the moment of dissolution of mind; and for those ordinary persons who will not obtain the path—as they are passing away, at the moment of dissolution of mind in the course of existence, and, in the immaterial plane, at the moment of arising of the path and of fruition; and for those passing away from the states of loss and woe and from the non-percipient beings: for them, there, the truth of the path will not cease, and the truth of suffering does not arise.
