[1118] For whomever, and wherever, the eye faculty (cakkhundriya) arises, will the joy faculty (somanassindriya) arise for that one there?
For those in their final existence (pacchimabhavika) who are being reborn into the five-constituent existence (pañcavokāra), and for those possessing eyes who, having been reborn with equanimity, will attain final Nibbāna — for these, as they are being reborn, the eye faculty arises for them there, but the joy faculty will not arise for them there. For the others possessing eyes who are being reborn, the eye faculty arises for them there and the joy faculty will arise.
Or else, for whomever, and wherever, the joy faculty will arise, does the eye faculty arise for that one there?
For those passing away from the five-constituent existence, and for those without eyes who are being reborn into the sense sphere (kāmāvacara), the joy faculty will arise for them there, but the eye faculty does not arise for them there. For those possessing eyes who are being reborn, the joy faculty will arise for them there and the eye faculty arises.
