[1191] For whomever, wherever, the eye faculty (cakkhundriya) does not arise, will the equanimity faculty (upekkhindriya) not arise for that one there?
For those passing away from the five-constituent plane (pañcavokāra), for beings without eyes (acakkhuka) who are being reborn into the sense-sphere plane (kāmāvacara), and for formless beings (arūpa)—for them, there, the eye faculty does not arise, but it is not the case that the equanimity faculty will not arise for them there. For those attaining final Nibbāna (parinibbāna) in the five-constituent plane, for those in their final existence (pacchimabhavika) in the formless plane, for non-percipient beings (asaññasatta), and for those possessed of eyes (sacakkhuka) who, having been reborn with joy (somanassa), will attain final Nibbāna—for them as they are passing away: for them, there, the eye faculty does not arise and the equanimity faculty will not arise.
Or, on the other hand: for whomever, wherever, the equanimity faculty will not arise, does the eye faculty not arise for that one there?
For those in their final existence who are being reborn into the five-constituent plane, and for those possessed of eyes who, having been reborn with joy, will attain final Nibbāna—for them as they are being reborn: for them, there, the equanimity faculty will not arise, but it is not the case that the eye faculty does not arise for them there. For those attaining final Nibbāna in the five-constituent plane, for those in their final existence in the formless plane, for non-percipient beings, and for those possessed of eyes who, having been reborn with joy, will attain final Nibbāna—for them as they are passing away: for them, there, the equanimity faculty will not arise and the eye faculty does not arise.
