[985] For whomever, wherever, the eye faculty (cakkhundriyaṃ) will not arise, will the joy faculty (somanassindriyaṃ) not arise for that one, there?
Yes.
Or else, for whomever, wherever, the joy faculty will not arise, will the eye faculty not arise for that one, there?
For those possessed of eyes (sacakkhukā) who, having been reborn with equanimity (upekkhā), will attain final Nibbāna: for them, there, the joy faculty will not arise, but it is not the case that, for them, there, the eye faculty will not arise. For those in their final existence (pacchimabhavika) in the five-constituent existence (pañcavokāra), for non-percipient beings (asaññasattā), and for formless beings (arūpā): for them, there, both the joy faculty will not arise and the eye faculty will not arise.
