Cakkhundarīya

Abhidhammapiṭaka · Yamaka (2) · Vol. 39 · Section 1170

[1170] For whomever the masculinity faculty (purisindriya) does not arise, will the joy faculty (somanassindriya) not arise for that one? For all who are passing away and for non-males who are being reborn — for them the masculinity faculty does not arise, but it is not the case that the joy faculty will not arise for them. For those attaining final Nibbāna (parinibbāna) in the sense sphere (kāmāvacara), for those in their final existence (pacchimabhavika) in the form sphere (rūpāvacara) and in the formless sphere (arūpāvacara), and for those who, having been reborn with equanimity (upekkhā), will attain final Nibbāna — for them, while they are passing away, the masculinity faculty does not arise and the joy faculty will not arise. Or else, for whomever the joy faculty will not arise, does the masculinity faculty not arise for that one? For males in their final existence who are being reborn, and for those males who, having been reborn with equanimity, will attain final Nibbāna — for them, while they are being reborn, the joy faculty will not arise, but it is not the case that the masculinity faculty does not arise for them. For those attaining final Nibbāna in the sense sphere, for those in their final existence in the form sphere and in the formless sphere, and for those who, having been reborn with equanimity, will attain final Nibbāna — for them, while they are passing away, the joy faculty will not arise and the masculinity faculty does not arise.
