[1218] For whomever, wherever, the equanimity faculty (upekkhindriya) does not arise, will the faith faculty (saddhindriya) not arise for that one there?
For all [beings] at the moment of the dissolution of mind (citta), and at the moment of the arising of a mind dissociated from equanimity (upekkhā), the equanimity faculty does not arise for them there, yet it is not the case that the faith faculty will not arise for them there. At the moment of the dissolution of the final mind (pacchimacitta) associated with equanimity, for those endowed with the final mind associated with joy (somanassa), and for non-percipient beings (asaññasattā), the equanimity faculty does not arise for them there and the faith faculty will not arise.
Or rather, for whomever, wherever, the faith faculty will not arise, does the equanimity faculty not arise for that one there?
At the moment of the arising of the final mind associated with equanimity, the faith faculty will not arise for them there, yet it is not the case that the equanimity faculty does not arise for them there. At the moment of the dissolution of the final mind associated with equanimity, for those endowed with the final mind associated with joy, and for non-percipient beings, the faith faculty will not arise for them there and the equanimity faculty does not arise.
