[1449] "Whoever did not abandon the grief faculty (domanassindriya), will that one not develop the 'I shall come to know the unknown' faculty (anaññātaññassāmītindriya)?"
Those ordinary persons (puthujjanā) who will obtain the path (magga) did not abandon the grief faculty, but it is not the case that they will not develop the 'I shall come to know the unknown' faculty. Six persons did not abandon the grief faculty and will not develop the 'I shall come to know the unknown' faculty.
"Or rather, whoever will not develop the 'I shall come to know the unknown' faculty, did that one not abandon the grief faculty?"
Three persons will not develop the 'I shall come to know the unknown' faculty, but it is not the case that they did not abandon the grief faculty. Six persons will not develop the 'I shall come to know the unknown' faculty and did not abandon the grief faculty.
