[528] For whomever the equanimity faculty (upekkhindriya) arises, does the faith faculty (saddhindriya) arise for him?
For rootless ones (ahetuka) being reborn (upapajjanta) with equanimity (upekkhā), and, in the course of existence (pavatti), at the moment of arising (uppādakkhaṇa) of a mind (citta) associated (sampayutta) with equanimity and dissociated (vippayutta) from faith (saddhā) — for them the equanimity faculty arises, but the faith faculty does not arise for them. For those with roots (sahetuka) being reborn with equanimity, and, in the course of existence, at the moment of arising of a mind associated with equanimity and associated with faith — for them both the equanimity faculty arises and the faith faculty arises.
Or, for whomever the faith faculty arises, does the equanimity faculty arise for him?
For those with roots being reborn without equanimity, and, in the course of existence, at the moment of arising of a mind associated with faith and dissociated from equanimity — for them the faith faculty arises, but the equanimity faculty does not arise for them. For those with roots being reborn with equanimity, and, in the course of existence, at the moment of arising of a mind associated with faith and associated with equanimity — for them both the faith faculty arises and the equanimity faculty arises.
