[598] For whomever, wherever, the equanimity faculty (upekkhindriya) arises, does the faith faculty (saddhindriya) arise for that one there?
For the rootless (ahetuka) who are being reborn with equanimity, and, in the course of existence (pavatti), at the moment of arising (uppādakkhaṇa) of a mind (citta) associated with equanimity and dissociated from faith: for them there the equanimity faculty arises, but for them there the faith faculty does not arise. For those with roots (sahetuka) who are being reborn with equanimity, and, in the course of existence, at the moment of arising of a mind associated with equanimity and associated with faith: for them there the equanimity faculty arises and the faith faculty arises.
Or rather, for whomever, wherever, the faith faculty arises, does the equanimity faculty arise for that one there?
For those with roots who are being reborn without equanimity, and, in the course of existence, at the moment of arising of a mind associated with faith and dissociated from equanimity: for them there the faith faculty arises, but for them there the equanimity faculty does not arise. For those with roots who are being reborn with equanimity, and, in the course of existence, at the moment of arising of a mind associated with faith and associated with equanimity: for them there the faith faculty arises and the equanimity faculty arises.
