[636] For whom the life faculty (jīvitindriya) does not arise, does the equanimity faculty (upekkhindriya) not arise for him?
Yes.
Or rather, for whom the equanimity faculty does not arise, does the life faculty not arise for him?
For those being reborn without equanimity (upekkhā), and, in the course of existence (pavatti), at the moment of arising (uppādakkhaṇa) of a mind (citta) dissociated from equanimity, the equanimity faculty does not arise for them, but it is not the case that the life faculty does not arise for them. For all who are passing away, and, in the course of existence, at the moment of dissolution (bhaṅgakkhaṇa) of the mind, the equanimity faculty does not arise for them, and the life faculty does not arise.
