[645] For whom the equanimity faculty (upekkhindriya) does not arise, does the wisdom faculty (paññindriya) not arise for him?
For those taking rebirth without equanimity [but] associated with knowledge (ñāṇa), and, in the course of existence (pavatti), at the moment of arising (uppādakkhaṇa) of a mind (citta) dissociated from equanimity and associated with knowledge — for them the equanimity faculty does not arise, yet it is not the case that the wisdom faculty does not arise for them. For all [beings] at the moment of dissolution (bhaṅgakkhaṇa) of mind, at the moment of arising of a mind dissociated from equanimity and dissociated from knowledge, for those who have attained cessation (nirodha), and for non-percipient beings (asaññasatta) — for them both the equanimity faculty does not arise and the wisdom faculty does not arise.
Or rather, for whom the wisdom faculty does not arise, does the equanimity faculty not arise for him?
For those taking rebirth dissociated from knowledge [but] with equanimity, and, in the course of existence, at the moment of arising of a mind dissociated from knowledge and associated with equanimity — for them the wisdom faculty does not arise, yet it is not the case that the equanimity faculty does not arise for them. For all [beings] at the moment of dissolution of mind, at the moment of arising of a mind dissociated from knowledge and dissociated from equanimity, for those who have attained cessation, and for non-percipient beings — for them both the wisdom faculty does not arise and the equanimity faculty does not arise.
