[689] For whomever, wherever, the nose faculty (ghānindriya) does not arise, does the faith faculty (saddhindriya) not arise for that one there?
For beings without a nose (aghānaka) but with roots (sahetuka) who are being reborn: for them the nose faculty does not arise there, but it is not the case that the faith faculty does not arise for them there. For all beings who are passing away, and for beings without a nose and without roots (ahetuka) who are being reborn: for them there the nose faculty does not arise and the faith faculty does not arise.
Or rather, for whomever, wherever, the faith faculty does not arise, does the nose faculty not arise for that one there?
For beings without roots but with a nose (saghānaka) who are being reborn: for them the faith faculty does not arise there, but it is not the case that the nose faculty does not arise for them there. For all beings who are passing away, and for beings without roots and without a nose who are being reborn: for them there the faith faculty does not arise and the nose faculty does not arise.
