[857] For whom the masculinity faculty (purisindriya) will arise, will the joy faculty (somanassindriya) arise for that one?
Those males who, in that very state (bhāva), having manifested some number of existences (bhava), will be reborn with equanimity (upekkhā) and attain final Nibbāna (parinibbāna) — for them the masculinity faculty will arise, but the joy faculty will not arise for them. For the others, both the masculinity faculty will arise and the joy faculty will arise.
Or rather, for whom the joy faculty will arise, will the masculinity faculty arise for that one?
Those who, having been reborn in the form sphere (rūpāvacara), will attain final Nibbāna, and those females who, in that very state, having manifested some number of existences, will be reborn with joy (somanassa) and attain final Nibbāna — for them the joy faculty will arise, but the masculinity faculty will not arise for them. For the others, both the joy faculty will arise and the masculinity faculty will arise.
