[858] "For whomever the masculinity faculty (purisindriya) will arise, will the equanimity faculty (upekkhindriya) arise for him?"
Those males (purisā) who, having manifested some number of existences in that very same state (bhāva), will be reborn with joy (somanassa) and attain final Nibbāna — for them the masculinity faculty will arise, but the equanimity faculty will not arise for them. For the others, both the masculinity faculty will arise and the equanimity faculty will arise.
"Or rather, for whomever the equanimity faculty will arise, will the masculinity faculty arise for him?"
Those who, having been reborn in the form sphere (rūpāvacara) or the formless sphere (arūpāvacara), will attain final Nibbāna, and those females (itthiyo) who, having manifested some number of existences in that very same state, will be reborn with equanimity and attain final Nibbāna — for them the equanimity faculty will arise, but the masculinity faculty will not arise for them. For the others, both the equanimity faculty will arise and the masculinity faculty will arise.
