[947] For whom the masculinity faculty (purisindriya) will not arise, will the equanimity faculty (upekkhindriya) not arise for him?
Those who, having been reborn in the form sphere (rūpāvacara) or the formless sphere (arūpāvacara), will attain final Nibbāna, and those women who, after passing through some number of existences in that very same state, will be reborn with equanimity and attain final Nibbāna — for them the masculinity faculty will not arise, but it is not the case that the equanimity faculty will not arise for them. For those in their final existence (pacchimabhavika), and those women who, after passing through some number of existences in that very same state, will be reborn with joy (somanassa) and attain final Nibbāna — for them the masculinity faculty will not arise and the equanimity faculty will not arise.
Or rather, for whom the equanimity faculty will not arise, will the masculinity faculty not arise for him?
Those men who, after passing through some number of existences in that very same state, will be reborn with joy and attain final Nibbāna — for them the equanimity faculty will not arise, but it is not the case that the masculinity faculty will not arise for them. For those in their final existence, and those women who, after passing through some number of existences in that very same state, will be reborn with joy and attain final Nibbāna — for them the equanimity faculty will not arise and the masculinity faculty will not arise.
