[1144] A phenomenon (dhamma) associated with pleasant feeling (vedanā) is a condition, by way of object condition (ārammaṇa-paccaya), for a phenomenon associated with painful feeling.
Having given a gift (dāna), undertaken the precepts (sīla), and performed the uposatha observance with a mind (citta) associated with pleasant feeling, grief (domanassa) arises in one who feels remorse (vippaṭisāra). When the jhāna associated with pleasant feeling has been lost, grief arises in one who feels remorse. Taking as object the aggregates (khandhā) associated with pleasant feeling, there arise aggregates associated with painful feeling.
