[108] Conditioned by a phenomenon (dhamma) that is without applied thought, with only sustained thought (avitakka-vicāramatta), and a phenomenon that is without applied thought and without sustained thought (avitakka-avicāra), there arises a phenomenon with applied thought and sustained thought (savitakka-savicāra) … Conditioned by applied thought (vitakka) and the base (vatthu), aggregates (khandhā) with applied thought and sustained thought [arise]; at the moment of rebirth-linking (paṭisandhi-kkhaṇa) … .
Conditioned by a phenomenon that is without applied thought, with only sustained thought, and a phenomenon that is without applied thought and without sustained thought, there arises a phenomenon without applied thought, with only sustained thought … Conditioned by the aggregates that are without applied thought, with only sustained thought, and by sustained thought (vicāra), [there arises] the predominance (adhipati) that is without applied thought, with only sustained thought; conditioned by the aggregates that are without applied thought, with only sustained thought, and by the base, [there arises] the predominance that is without applied thought, with only sustained thought; conditioned by one resultant (vipāka) aggregate that is without applied thought, with only sustained thought, and by sustained thought, [and] conditioned by one resultant aggregate that is without applied thought, with only sustained thought, and by the base, three aggregates [arise]; at the moment of rebirth-linking … .
Five questions (pañhā) should be formulated.
Wherever "without applied thought, with only sustained thought" occurs, there "resultant" should be supplied.
In the section rooted in not-predominance (na-adhipati-mūlaka), thirty-seven questions should be formulated.
In not-proximity (na-anantara), not-contiguity (na-samanantara), not-mutuality (na-aññamañña), and not-decisive-support (na-upanissaya) as well, there are just seven questions — materiality (rūpa) only.
In not-prenascence (na-purejāta): thirty-seven, similar to the negative method (paccanīya) of the dependent section (paṭicca-vāra).
In not-postnascence (na-pacchājāta): thirty-seven.
In not-repetition (na-āsevana) also, it is similar.
Wherever "without applied thought, with only sustained thought" occurs as well, there resultants should be supplied.
