[1149] A phenomenon (dhamma) that is neither leading to accumulation nor leading to dispersal (nevācayagāmi-nāpacayagāmī) is a condition for a phenomenon leading to accumulation (ācayagāmī) by presence condition (atthi-paccaya).
Prenascence (purejāta): Trainees (sekkhā) or worldlings (puthujjanā) contemplate the eye as impermanent, as suffering (dukkha), as not-self; they relish it and delight in it. With that as object, lust (rāga) … grief (domanassa) arises. They contemplate the ear … the base (vatthu) as impermanent …; they relish it and delight in it. With that as object, lust … grief arises. With the divine eye, a form …; with the divine ear element (dibbā sotadhātu) one hears a sound. The base is a condition for the aggregates (khandhā) leading to accumulation by presence condition.
