Parittāraṁmaṇattika

Abhidhammapiṭaka · Paṭṭhāna (2) · Vol. 41 · Section 1570

[1570] A phenomenon (dhamma) with a limited object (parittārammaṇa) is a condition for a phenomenon with a limited object by object condition (ārammaṇa-paccaya): Having given a gift (dāna), undertaken the precepts (sīla), and performed the Uposatha observance (uposatha-kamma), one reviews it; one reviews (deeds) formerly well done. Noble ones review the abandoned defilements (kilesa) that have limited objects; they review the suppressed defilements; they know the defilements formerly indulged in. They contemplate with insight the limited aggregates (khandha) with limited objects as impermanent, as suffering (dukkha), as non-self; they relish and delight in it; taking that as object, lust (rāga) with a limited object arises, and grief (domanassa) arises. By the knowledge of penetration of the minds of others (cetopariyañāṇa), one knows the mind of one endowed with a limited mind that has a limited object. Limited aggregates with limited objects are a condition, by object condition, for the knowledge of penetration of the minds of others, for the knowledge of the recollection of past lives (pubbenivāsānussatiñāṇa), for the knowledge of beings faring according to their kamma (yathākammūpagañāṇa), for the knowledge of the future (anāgataṃsañāṇa), and for adverting (āvajjana).
