[129] A phenomenon (dhamma) with thought (vitakka) and examination (vicāra) is a condition, by object condition (ārammaṇa-paccaya), for a phenomenon with thought and examination. Having given a gift (dāna), having undertaken virtue (sīla), having performed the uposatha observance, one reviews it; one reviews what was formerly well done; having emerged from a jhāna with thought and examination … having emerged from the path … having emerged from fruition (phala), one reviews the fruition. Noble ones review the defilements (kilesa) that have been abandoned; they review the defilements that have been suppressed; they know the defilements formerly indulged in. They see with insight the aggregates with thought and examination as impermanent, as suffering (dukkha), as not-self; they relish them, they delight in them; with that as object, lust (rāga) arises, grief arises. With the aggregates with thought and examination as object, aggregates with thought and examination arise.
