[16] Dependent on a phenomenon (dhamma) with thought-conception and discursive thought (savitakka-savicāra), on a phenomenon without thought-conception, with discursive thought only (avitakka-vicāramatta), and on a phenomenon without thought-conception and without discursive thought (avitakka-avicāra), a phenomenon with thought-conception and discursive thought arises by root condition (hetu-paccaya).
At the moment of rebirth-linking (paṭisandhikkhaṇa), dependent on one aggregate (khandha) with thought-conception and discursive thought, on thought-conception (vitakka), and on the base (vatthu), three aggregates arise; dependent on two aggregates, on thought-conception, and on the base, two aggregates arise.
Dependent on a phenomenon with thought-conception and discursive thought, on a phenomenon without thought-conception, with discursive thought only, and on a phenomenon without thought-conception and without discursive thought, a phenomenon without thought-conception and without discursive thought arises by root condition.
Dependent on the aggregates with thought-conception and discursive thought, on thought-conception, and on the great primary elements (mahābhūta), mind-originated form (cittasamuṭṭhāna-rūpa) arises; at the moment of rebirth-linking, dependent on the aggregates with thought-conception and discursive thought, on thought-conception, and on the great primary elements, kamma-born form (kaṭattā-rūpa) arises.
