[1973] A phenomenon (dhamma) with a past object (atītārammaṇa) is a condition for a phenomenon with a past object by object condition (ārammaṇa-paccaya).
One reviews the past sphere of infinity of consciousness (viññāṇañcāyatana); one reviews the sphere of neither perception nor non-perception (nevasaññānāsaññāyatana); one reviews the past knowledge of supernormal powers (iddhividha-ñāṇa) with a past object; the knowledge of penetration of the minds of others (cetopariya-ñāṇa) … the knowledge of reminiscence of past lives (pubbenivāsānussati-ñāṇa) … one reviews the knowledge of how beings fare according to their kamma (yathākammūpaga-ñāṇa).
Noble ones (ariyā) review the abandoned defilements (kilesa) with a past object; the suppressed defilements …; the defilements formerly indulged in ….
One sees with insight past aggregates (khandha) with a past object as impermanent, as suffering (dukkha), as not-self. (Or) one relishes and delights in them: taking that as object, lust (rāga) with a past object arises; view (diṭṭhi) … doubt … restlessness, grief arises.
Past aggregates with a past object are a condition for the knowledge of penetration of the minds of others, for the knowledge of reminiscence of past lives, for the knowledge of how beings fare according to their kamma, and for adverting (āvajjana), by object condition.
