[328] A phenomenon (dhamma) with applied thought (vitakka) and sustained thought (vicāra) and a phenomenon without applied thought, with sustained thought only, are a condition, by repetition condition (āsevana-paccaya), for a phenomenon with applied thought and sustained thought and a phenomenon without applied thought, with sustained thought only. The preceding aggregates (khandhā) with applied thought and sustained thought, together with applied thought, are in each case a condition, by repetition condition, for the succeeding aggregates with applied thought and sustained thought and for applied thought. Conformity (anuloma) together with applied thought [is a condition] for change-of-lineage (gotrabhū) and for applied thought; conformity together with applied thought, for cleansing (vodāna) and for applied thought; change-of-lineage together with applied thought, for the path (magga) with applied thought and sustained thought and for applied thought; cleansing together with applied thought is a condition, by repetition condition, for the path with applied thought and sustained thought and for applied thought.
