Abhidhammapiṭaka · Paṭṭhāna (2) · Vol. 41 · Section 327

[327] A phenomenon (dhamma) with thought-conception and discursive thought (savitakka-savicāra) and a phenomenon without thought-conception, with discursive thought only (avitakka-vicāramatta), are a condition, by repetition condition (āsevana-paccaya), for a phenomenon without thought-conception, with discursive thought only, and for a phenomenon without thought-conception and without discursive thought (avitakka-avicāra). The preparation (parikamma) for the jhāna that is without thought-conception, with discursive thought only, and thought-conception (vitakka) are a condition for the jhāna that is without thought-conception, with discursive thought only, and for discursive thought (vicāra). Change-of-lineage (gotrabhū) and thought-conception are a condition for the path that is without thought-conception, with discursive thought only, and for discursive thought; cleansing (vodāna) and thought-conception are a condition for the path that is without thought-conception, with discursive thought only, and for discursive thought, by repetition condition.
