[310] A phenomenon (dhamma) with applied thought (vitakka) and with sustained thought (vicāra) is a condition, by repetition condition (āsevana-paccaya), for a phenomenon without applied thought and without sustained thought.
The preliminary work (parikamma) for the second jhāna is a condition, by repetition condition, for sustained thought in the second jhāna.
