Paccanīyapaṭṭhāna

[309] A phenomenon (dhamma) with thought and examination (savitakka-savicāra) is a condition for a phenomenon without thought, with examination only (avitakka-vicāramatta), by repetition condition (āsevana-paccaya): Each preceding set of aggregates (khandhā) with thought and examination is a condition for each succeeding thought (vitakka) by repetition condition. The preliminary work (parikamma) for the jhāna without thought, with examination only, is a condition for the jhāna without thought, with examination only, by repetition condition. Change-of-lineage (gotrabhū) is a condition for the path (magga) without thought, with examination only, by repetition condition. Cleansing (vodāna) is a condition for the path without thought, with examination only, by repetition condition.
