Abhidhammapiṭaka · Paṭṭhāna (2) · Vol. 41 · Section 325

[325] A phenomenon (dhamma) accompanied by thought-conception (vitakka) and discursive thought (vicāra), and a phenomenon without thought-conception, with mere discursive thought, are a condition for a phenomenon without thought-conception, with mere discursive thought, by repetition condition (āsevana-paccaya). Each preceding set of aggregates (khandhā) accompanied by thought-conception and discursive thought, together with thought-conception, is a condition for each subsequent thought-conception by repetition condition. The preliminary work (parikamma) for jhāna without thought-conception, with mere discursive thought, together with thought-conception, is a condition for the jhāna without thought-conception, with mere discursive thought, by repetition condition. Change-of-lineage (gotrabhū) together with thought-conception is a condition for the path (magga) without thought-conception, with mere discursive thought; cleansing (vodāna) together with thought-conception is a condition for the path without thought-conception, with mere discursive thought, by repetition condition.
