[326] A phenomenon with applied thought and sustained thought (savitakka-savicāra dhamma) and a phenomenon without applied thought and with only sustained thought (avitakka-vicāramatta dhamma) are a condition for a phenomenon without applied thought and without sustained thought (avitakka-avicāra dhamma) by repetition condition (āsevana-paccaya). The preliminary work (parikamma) for the second jhāna and applied thought (vitakka) are a condition for sustained thought (vicāra) in the second jhāna by repetition condition; the preliminary work for the sphere of neither-perception-nor-non-perception (nevasaññānāsaññāyatana) and applied thought … the preliminary work for the divine eye (dibbacakkhu) and applied thought … the preliminary work for knowledge of the future (anāgataṃsañāṇa) and applied thought are a condition for knowledge of the future by repetition condition. Change-of-lineage (gotrabhū) and applied thought are a condition for the path that is without applied thought and without sustained thought, and for sustained thought, by repetition condition. Purification (vodāna) and applied thought are a condition for the path that is without applied thought and without sustained thought, and for sustained thought, by repetition condition.
