[488] A phenomenon (dhamma) that is both a fetter (saññojana) and associated with fetters (saññojana-sampayutta) is a condition, by object condition (ārammaṇa-paccaya), for a phenomenon that is both a fetter and associated with fetters: Taking fetters as object, fetters arise. The root should be done. Taking fetters as object, aggregates (khandhā) that are associated with fetters but not fetters arise. The root should be done. Taking fetters as object, fetters and aggregates associated with fetters arise. A phenomenon that is associated with fetters but not a fetter is a condition, by object condition, for a phenomenon that is associated with fetters but not a fetter: Taking aggregates that are associated with fetters but not fetters as object, aggregates that are associated with fetters but not fetters arise. A phenomenon that is associated with fetters but not a fetter is a condition, by object condition, for a phenomenon that is both a fetter and associated with fetters: Taking aggregates that are associated with fetters but not fetters as object, fetters arise. A phenomenon that is associated with fetters but not a fetter is a condition, by object condition, for a phenomenon that is both a fetter and associated with fetters and for a phenomenon that is associated with fetters but not a fetter: Taking aggregates that are associated with fetters but not fetters as object, fetters and aggregates associated with fetters arise. A phenomenon that is both a fetter and associated with fetters and a phenomenon that is associated with fetters but not a fetter are a condition, by object condition, for a phenomenon that is both a fetter and associated with fetters: Three (cases).
