Sahetukaduka

Abhidhammapiṭaka · Paṭṭhāna (3) · Vol. 42 · Section 81

[81] A phenomenon (dhamma) with root (sahetuka) is a condition, by object condition (ārammaṇa-paccaya), for a phenomenon with root: Having given a gift, … virtue (sīla) … the uposatha observance … one reviews it; one reviews things formerly well practised; having emerged from jhāna, one reviews the jhāna. The noble ones, having emerged from the path (magga), review the path; they review the fruit (phala); the abandoned defilements (kilesa) …; the suppressed defilements …; formerly …. [One contemplates] the aggregates (khandhā) with root as impermanent …; grief (domanassa) arises. When the wholesome and the unwholesome (kusala–akusala) have ceased, a resultant (vipāka) with root arises as registration (tadārammaṇatā). By the knowledge encompassing the minds of others (cetopariyañāṇa) they know the mind (citta) of one who possesses a mind with root. The sphere of the infinity of space (ākāsānañcāyatana) [is a condition] for the sphere of the infinity of consciousness (viññāṇañcāyatana); the sphere of nothingness (ākiñcaññāyatana) [is a condition] for the sphere of neither-perception-nor-non-perception (nevasaññānāsaññāyatana). The aggregates with root are a condition, by object condition, for the knowledge of supernormal power (iddhividhañāṇa), for the knowledge encompassing the minds of others, for the knowledge of the recollection of past lives (pubbenivāsānussatiñāṇa), for the knowledge of beings' faring according to their kamma (yathākammūpagañāṇa), and for the knowledge of the future (anāgataṃsañāṇa). With the aggregates with root as object, aggregates with root arise. A phenomenon with root is a condition, by object condition, for a rootless (ahetuka) phenomenon: [One contemplates] the aggregates with root as impermanent …; grief arises. When the wholesome and the unwholesome have ceased, a rootless resultant arises as registration. With the aggregates with root as object, rootless aggregates and delusion (moha) arise. A phenomenon with root is a condition, by object condition, for a phenomenon with root and for a rootless phenomenon: With the aggregates with root as object, aggregates accompanied by doubt (vicikicchā) or accompanied by restlessness (uddhacca), and delusion, arise. A rootless phenomenon is a condition, by object condition, for a rootless phenomenon: Nibbāna is a condition, by object condition, for adverting (āvajjanā). [One contemplates] the eye … the base (vatthu) … the rootless aggregates and delusion as impermanent …; grief arises. When the wholesome and the unwholesome have ceased, a rootless resultant arises as registration. The form base (rūpāyatana) [is a condition] for eye-consciousness (cakkhuviññāṇa); the tangible base (phoṭṭhabbāyatana) [is a condition] for body-consciousness (kāyaviññāṇa). With the rootless aggregates and delusion as object, rootless aggregates and delusion arise. A rootless phenomenon is a condition, by object condition, for a phenomenon with root: The noble ones review Nibbāna. Nibbāna is a condition, by object condition, for change-of-lineage (gotrabhū), for cleansing (vodāna), for the path, and for the fruit. The noble ones review the abandoned defilements that are rootless; formerly …; the eye … the base … [one contemplates] the rootless aggregates and delusion as impermanent …; grief arises. When the wholesome and the unwholesome have ceased, a resultant with root arises as registration. With the divine eye they see forms; with the divine ear element they hear sounds. By the knowledge encompassing the minds of others they know the mind of one who possesses a rootless mind. The rootless aggregates are a condition, by object condition, for the knowledge of supernormal power, for the knowledge encompassing the minds of others, for the knowledge of the recollection of past lives, for the knowledge of beings' faring according to their kamma, and for the knowledge of the future. With the rootless aggregates and delusion as object, aggregates with root arise. A rootless phenomenon is a condition, by object condition, for a phenomenon with root and for a rootless phenomenon: With the eye as object, aggregates accompanied by doubt or accompanied by restlessness, and delusion, arise. The ear … the base … With the rootless aggregates and delusion as object, aggregates accompanied by doubt or accompanied by restlessness, and delusion, arise. A phenomenon with root and a rootless phenomenon are a condition, by object condition, for a phenomenon with root: With the aggregates accompanied by doubt or accompanied by restlessness, and delusion, as object, aggregates with root arise. A phenomenon with root and a rootless phenomenon are a condition, by object condition, for a rootless phenomenon: With the aggregates accompanied by doubt or accompanied by restlessness, and delusion, as object, rootless aggregates and delusion arise. A phenomenon with root and a rootless phenomenon are a condition, by object condition, for a phenomenon with root and for a rootless phenomenon: With the aggregates accompanied by doubt or accompanied by restlessness, and delusion, as object, aggregates accompanied by doubt or accompanied by restlessness, and delusion, arise.
