[86] A phenomenon (dhamma) without root (ahetuka) is a condition (paccaya) for a phenomenon without root by prenascence condition (purejāta-paccaya): object-prenascence (ārammaṇa-purejāta) and base-prenascence (vatthu-purejāta).
Object-prenascence: the eye (cakkhu) … the base (vatthu) as impermanent … grief (domanassa) arises. When the wholesome and the unwholesome have ceased, the resultant (vipāka) without root arises as registration (tadārammaṇatā). The form base (rūpāyatana) is a condition for eye-consciousness (cakkhuviññāṇa), the tangible base (phoṭṭhabbāyatana) for body-consciousness (kāyaviññāṇa), by prenascence condition.
Base-prenascence: the eye base (cakkhāyatana) is a condition for eye-consciousness, the body base (kāyāyatana) for body-consciousness, by prenascence condition. The base is a condition for the aggregates (khandhā) without root and for delusion (moha) by prenascence condition.
A phenomenon without root is a condition for a phenomenon with root (sahetuka) by prenascence condition: object-prenascence and base-prenascence.
Object-prenascence: the eye … the base as impermanent … grief arises. When the wholesome and the unwholesome have ceased, the resultant with root arises as registration. One sees a form (rūpa) with the divine eye (dibbacakkhu); one hears a sound with the divine ear element (dibbā sotadhātu).
Base-prenascence: the base is a condition for the aggregates with root by prenascence condition.
A phenomenon without root is a condition for a phenomenon with root and for a phenomenon without root by prenascence condition: object-prenascence and base-prenascence.
Object-prenascence: taking as object the eye … the base, the aggregates accompanied by doubt (vicikicchā), accompanied by restlessness (uddhacca), and delusion arise.
Base-prenascence: the base is a condition for the aggregates accompanied by doubt, accompanied by restlessness, and for delusion, by prenascence condition.
