[463] A phenomenon (dhamma) that is subject to clinging (upādāniya) but not clinging (upādāna) is a condition, by predominance condition (adhipati-paccaya), for a phenomenon that is subject to clinging but not clinging: object-predominance (ārammaṇādhipati) and conascence-predominance (sahajātādhipati).
Object-predominance: giving (dāna) … having emerged from jhāna, having given weight to the jhāna, one reviews it, relishes it, delights in it; having given weight to that, lust (rāga) … wrong view (diṭṭhi) arises …
Trainees (sekkhā), having given weight to change-of-lineage (gotrabhū) … cleansing (vodāna) … the eye … the base (vatthu) … Having given weight to aggregates (khandhā) that are subject to clinging but not clinging, one relishes them, delights in them; having given weight to that, lust arises, wrong view … Aggregates that are subject to clinging but not clinging arise.
Conascence-predominance: predominant (adhipati) [phenomena] that are subject to clinging but not clinging are a condition, by predominance condition, for the associated (sampayuttaka) aggregates and for mind-originated forms (cittasamuṭṭhāna-rūpa).
The remaining two [questions] as well — both object-predominance and conascence-predominance — are similar to the clinging dyad (upādāna-duka).
As to the combinations (ghaṭanā): with predominance too there are three, similar to the clinging dyad. All the conditions are similar to the clinging dyad — in what is subject to clinging there is no supramundane (lokuttara) [state]. The negative [method] (paccanīya) too, and the other two enumerations (gaṇanā) too, are similar to the clinging dyad.
The Clinging–Subject-to-Clinging Dyad (upādāna-upādāniya-duka) is finished.
