Abhidhammapiṭaka · Paṭṭhāna (4) · Vol. 43 · Section 62

[62] A phenomenon (dhamma) that is mind (citta) is a condition for a phenomenon that is mind by object condition (ārammaṇa-paccaya): Mind arises taking mind as object. The root should be done. Aggregates (khandhā) that are not mind arise taking mind as object. The root should be done. Mind and the associated aggregates arise taking mind as object. A phenomenon that is not mind is a condition for a phenomenon that is not mind by object condition: Having given a gift (dāna), having undertaken virtue (sīla), having performed the uposatha observance (uposathakamma), one reviews it, relishes it, delights in it; taking that as object, lust (rāga) arises … grief (domanassa) arises. [One reviews] what was formerly well done … Having emerged from jhāna, [one reviews] the jhāna … The noble ones, having emerged from the path (magga), review the path, review the fruit, review Nibbāna. Nibbāna is a condition for change-of-lineage (gotrabhū), for cleansing (vodāna), for the path, for the fruit, and for adverting (āvajjana) by object condition. The noble ones review the abandoned defilements (kilesa) that are not mind; they review the suppressed defilements; they know the defilements formerly indulged in. [One contemplates] the eye … the base (vatthu) … the aggregates that are not mind as impermanent …; grief arises. One sees a form (rūpa) with the divine eye, hears a sound with the divine ear element (sota-dhātu); by the knowledge encompassing the minds of others (cetopariya-ñāṇa) one knows the mind of one endowed with what is not mind. The base of the infinity of space (ākāsānañcāyatana) … the base of nothingness (ākiñcaññāyatana) … The form base (rūpāyatana) [is a condition] for the aggregates accompanied by eye-consciousness; the tangible base (phoṭṭhabbāyatana) … Aggregates that are not mind are a condition for the knowledge of supernormal powers (iddhividha-ñāṇa), for the knowledge encompassing the minds of others, for the knowledge of the recollection of past lives (pubbenivāsānussati-ñāṇa), for the knowledge of faring according to kamma (yathākammūpaga-ñāṇa), for the knowledge of the future (anāgataṃsa-ñāṇa), and for adverting, by object condition. A phenomenon that is not mind is a condition for a phenomenon that is mind by object condition: Having given a gift … — the same as the first round, without any difference. This is the difference: the form base [is a condition] for eye-consciousness; the tangible base for body-consciousness. Aggregates that are not mind are a condition for the knowledge of supernormal powers … for adverting, by object condition. A phenomenon that is not mind is a condition for a phenomenon that is mind and for a phenomenon that is not mind by object condition: Having given a gift … — the same as the first round, without any difference. This is the difference: the form base [is a condition] for eye-consciousness and the associated aggregates; the tangible base for body-consciousness and the associated aggregates. Aggregates that are not mind are a condition for the knowledge of supernormal powers … for adverting, by object condition. A phenomenon that is mind and a phenomenon that is not mind are a condition for a phenomenon that is mind by object condition: Mind [arises] taking mind and the associated aggregates as object.
