[657] A phenomenon (dhamma) accompanied by thought (savitakka) is a condition for a phenomenon accompanied by thought by object condition (ārammaṇa-paccaya): taking as object (ārabbha) aggregates (khandhā) accompanied by thought, aggregates accompanied by thought arise.

A phenomenon unaccompanied by thought is a condition for a phenomenon unaccompanied by thought by object condition: the noble ones (ariyā), having emerged from jhāna unaccompanied by thought, review the jhāna unaccompanied by thought; having emerged from the path (magga), they review the path; having emerged from fruition (phala), they review the fruition; they review Nibbāna. Nibbāna is a condition for the path unaccompanied by thought, for fruition, and for thought, by object condition. The eye (cakkhu) … the base (vatthu) … they contemplate with insight (vipassanti) the aggregates unaccompanied by thought, and thought, as impermanent …; they relish (assādenti) and delight (abhinandanti) in them; taking that as object, thought arises. With the divine eye (dibbacakkhu) they see a form (rūpa); with the divine ear element (dibbā sotadhātu) they hear a sound; with the knowledge encompassing others' minds (cetopariya-ñāṇa) they know the mind (citta) of one who possesses a mind unaccompanied by thought.
