Paccanīyapaṭṭhāna

Abhidhammapiṭaka · Paṭṭhāna (2) · Vol. 41 · Section 141

[141] A phenomenon (dhamma) without applied thought (vitakka) and without sustained thought (vicāra) is a condition, by object condition (ārammaṇa-paccaya), for a phenomenon with applied thought and with sustained thought and for a phenomenon without applied thought and with only sustained thought. The noble ones (ariyā), having emerged from a jhāna without applied thought and without sustained thought … from the path (magga) … from fruition (phala), review the fruition; taking that as object, aggregates (khandhā) with applied thought and sustained thought, and applied thought, arise. The noble ones review Nibbāna. Nibbāna is a condition, by object condition, for change-of-lineage (gotrabhū), for cleansing (vodāna), and for applied thought; for the path with applied thought and sustained thought, and for applied thought; for fruition with applied thought and sustained thought, and for applied thought; and for adverting (āvajjana), and for applied thought. One contemplates the eye (cakkhu) with insight as impermanent, as suffering (dukkha), as not-self; taking that as object, aggregates with applied thought and sustained thought, and applied thought, arise. The ear (sota) … … the tangible object (phoṭṭhabba), the base (vatthu) … One contemplates with insight the aggregates without applied thought and without sustained thought, and sustained thought, as impermanent, as suffering, as not-self; taking that as object, aggregates with applied thought and sustained thought, and applied thought, arise.
