[88] Conditioned by a phenomenon (dhamma) that is a mental factor (cetasika), a phenomenon that is a mental factor arises by root condition (hetu-paccaya): three [cases], similar to [those of] the dependence [section] (paṭicca).
Conditioned by a phenomenon that is not a mental factor (acetasika), a phenomenon that is not a mental factor arises by root condition: conditioned by mind (citta), mind-originated form (cittasamuṭṭhāna-rūpa) [arises]; conditioned by the base (vatthu), mind [arises]. At the moment of rebirth-linking (paṭisandhi): conditioned by mind, kamma-produced form (kaṭattārūpa) [arises]; conditioned by mind, the base [arises]; conditioned by the base, mind [arises]; conditioned by one great element (mahābhūta) … .
Conditioned by a phenomenon that is not a mental factor, a phenomenon that is a mental factor arises by root condition: conditioned by mind, the associated (sampayuttaka) aggregates (khandhā) [arise]; conditioned by the base, the aggregates that are mental factors [arise]. At the moment of rebirth-linking, both [cases] should be done.
