[215] Bhikkhus, here a bhikkhu against whom the Saṅgha has carried out an act of banishment (pabbājanīyakamma) conducts himself properly, is subdued (lomaṃ pāteti), behaves so as to deserve release (netthāraṃ vattati), and asks for the revocation (paṭippassaddhi) of the act of banishment. If, in that case, the bhikkhus think: "Friends, this bhikkhu against whom the Saṅgha has carried out an act of banishment conducts himself properly, is subdued, behaves so as to deserve release, and asks for the revocation of the act of banishment. Come, let us revoke the act of banishment for him," and they revoke the act of banishment for him as an incomplete assembly, contrary to the Dhamma … as a complete assembly, contrary to the Dhamma; as an incomplete assembly, in accordance with the Dhamma; as an incomplete assembly, with a semblance of the Dhamma; as a complete assembly, with a semblance of the Dhamma — the cycle (of permutations) should be worked out.
