[230] Bhikkhus, here a bhikkhu against whom the Saṅgha has carried out an act of censure (tajjanīyakamma) conducts himself properly, becomes subdued, behaves so as to merit release, and asks for the revocation of the act of censure. If it occurs to the bhikkhus there: "Friends, this bhikkhu against whom the Saṅgha has carried out an act of censure conducts himself properly, has become subdued, behaves so as to merit release, and asks for the revocation of the act of censure. Come, let us revoke the act of censure for him" — and they revoke the act of censure for him by a semblance of Dhamma, as an incomplete assembly (vagga), then the Saṅgha present there disputes: "It is an act by an incomplete assembly, contrary to Dhamma; an act by a complete assembly, contrary to Dhamma; an act by an incomplete assembly, in accordance with Dhamma; an act by an incomplete assembly, by a semblance of Dhamma; an act by a complete assembly, by a semblance of Dhamma; the act is not done, the act is wrongly done, the act must be done again."
Bhikkhus, those bhikkhus there who said: "It is an act by an incomplete assembly, by a semblance of Dhamma," and those bhikkhus who said: "The act is not done, the act is wrongly done, the act must be done again" — these bhikkhus there are speakers of Dhamma.
