[227] Bhikkhus, here a bhikkhu upon whom the Saṅgha has carried out an act of censure (tajjanīyakamma) conducts himself properly, becomes subdued (lomaṃ pāteti), behaves so as to deserve release, and asks for the revocation of the act of censure. If in that case the bhikkhus think thus: "Friends, this bhikkhu, upon whom the Saṅgha has carried out an act of censure, conducts himself properly, has become subdued, behaves so as to deserve release, and asks for the revocation of the act of censure. Come now, let us revoke the act of censure for him" — and they revoke the act of censure for him, being an incomplete faction, contrary to the Dhamma. The Saṅgha present there disputes: "It is a factional act contrary to the Dhamma; it is a unanimous act contrary to the Dhamma; it is a factional act in accordance with the Dhamma; it is a factional act with a semblance of the Dhamma; it is a unanimous act with a semblance of the Dhamma; the act is not carried out; the act is wrongly carried out; the act must be carried out again." Therein, bhikkhus, those bhikkhus who said thus: "It is a factional act contrary to the Dhamma," and those bhikkhus who said thus: "The act is not carried out; the act is wrongly carried out; the act must be carried out again" — these bhikkhus therein are speakers of Dhamma.
