[516] Bhikkhus, here again a bhikkhu commits several offences (āpatti) entailing a formal meeting of the Saṅgha (saṅghādisesa). Some offences he knows; some offences he does not know. Those offences that he knows, he conceals; those offences that he does not know, he does not conceal. He disrobes and, being ordained again with the higher ordination (upasampadā), those offences which, having known them before, he concealed — those offences, knowing them afterwards, he does not conceal; and those offences which, not having known them before, he did not conceal — those offences, knowing them afterwards, he does not conceal. Bhikkhus, that bhikkhu should be granted probation (parivāsa) for the earlier class of offences according as they were concealed, and then penance (mānatta) should be given.
