[517] Bhikkhus, again, here a bhikkhu commits several offences (āpatti) entailing a formal meeting of the Saṅgha (saṅghādisesa). Some offences he knows; some offences he does not know. Those offences he knows, those offences he conceals; those offences he does not know, those offences he does not conceal. Having disrobed, he is ordained again; those offences which, having known them before, he concealed, those offences, having come to know them afterwards, he does not conceal; those offences which, not having known them before, he did not conceal, those offences, having come to know them afterwards, he conceals. Bhikkhus, having given that bhikkhu probation (parivāsa) for both the earlier and the later classes of offences (āpattikkhandha), according as they were concealed, penance (mānatta) should be given to him.
